It’s officially been a year since I signed the dotted lines and became a homeowner! This past year has been one of the most trying, yet joyful of times for me. I haven’t shared too much of this process, because honestly, it isn’t always pretty! In fact most of the times aren’t! Mice and dirt just aren’t “photographable”… but this beautiful home has so much more to offer than that, and I know I need to learn to be more willing to share it with you all. This home was my great-grandmothers, and I am the sixth generation to live here! Now that is something to share! The home was built in the 1800’s and is set back in the woods, right off the state park, and is simply a dream to be apart of! I promise to share more about my family history and home-owning experiences in the next few months, so keep an eye out for those!
This year, we’ve hosted for so many, spent weekends doing projects, and learned some pretty difficult lessons! Of all the things i’ve experienced and learned, nothing prepared me for what happened yesterday. Sometime around dinner, we found out that someone had been in our home. There was a window in the living room that had been opened and dresser drawers left opened throughout the house. In my frantic state, I reached for the phone and, of course, called my dad! He was just as surprised and rushed over to help us, like he always does! We reached out to the police, figured out a timeline for when it happened and waited for them to show. They dusted for finger prints, but we got nothing. To be honest, we got very lucky. They took some cash and left all of our valuables. But they took something from me that is going to take some time to get back.
They took my peace of mind, shoved it into a bag, and ran away with it.
We never thought this would happen to us, and most people don’t. We live in a quite town, usually leave things unlocked, and assume we won’t be bothered. And that is why I am writing this post this morning, to inform people so hopefully it won’t happen to you. I’d hate to think of what would’ve happened if we weren’t next door at my grandparents house. Please, please, please, always be on the lookout for strange activity and keep your homes safe.
